Call for papers «Faith and Matter. Five Centuries of the History of Segovia Cathedral»
The Holy Cathedral of our Lady of the Assumption and Saint Frutos celebrates 500 years of its founding in the year 2025.
For this reason, the Cathedral’s Canonry convenes the congress ‘Faith and Matter: Five Centuries of the History of Segovia Cathedral’. This event will allow to analyse fundamental aspects of the history and construction of the Cathedral as well as the decorations of the building: paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, among others. Other main topics of the congress are the Cathedral property, the devotions and traditions or the current challenges in the dissemination, management and legislation of the religious heritage.
Along with other events organized by the institution in 2025, this celebration pursues the increase in the Cathedral’s knowledge and its historic, artistic and religious spheres.
Abstracts submission
The Canonry of the Cathedral of Segovia is pleased to invite curators-restorers, art managers, historians, researchers and other related profiles, to submit abstracts about the topics in this congress for the 500 years of the temple.
The abstracts can be submitted in Spanish or English and must include title, name of the author, institution and a summary of 200-500 words and a CV to congreso@catedralsegovia.es. There will be a selection process of the received abstracts by the organising committee. Deadline for submission of abstracts: 1 June 2025. Date of abstract notification of acceptance: 30 June 2025
The selected abstracts will have the opportunity to expose an in-person presentation during the conference ‘Faith and Matter: Five Centuries of the History of the Cathedral of Segovia’, which will be held the 16 and 17 October 2025.
After the conference, the Canonry will compose an online publication of the presented works.

Congress topics
The conference will take place for two days and will consist in four conferences directed by an expert on each of the different fields of study. The selected communications will be exposed:
- History, construction and main participants to the present day
- Cathedral property: art, iconography, materials and techniques, restauration process
- Immaterial heritage: faith, devotion and worship
- Current challenges in the dissemination, management and legislation of the religious heritage

The authors can send the submission form with their abstracts via email. The form must include a CV: congreso@catedralsegovia.es
Presentation of the selected papers
During the conference, held in Segovia 16 and 17 October 2025, the time allotted for the presentations is 15-20 minutes either in Spanish or English.
The results of these conferences will be published. The length of this final paper must be between 10-15 pages long and must be submitted up to 15 January 2026.
Segovia Cathedral will not cover travel expenses; however, the accommodation and food expenses will be covered.
